JSMP coordinates a free pre-participation athletic screening program each year for the athletes in Duval County. Volunteer physicians (internists, family medicine and pediatricians), orthopedic surgeons, cardiologists, pulmonologists, and other professional medical specialists make the screenings possible. Volunteers may coordinate through the Duval County Medical Society and the Jacksonville Sports Medicine Program.
These screenings are provided at no charge to the student athlete and are not intended to replace annual physical exams performed by pediatricians and primary care physicians. Further care with individual physicians is encouraged when a screening indicates potential problems which may impact the student’s future participation in sports activities.
